The SFM Foundation's Ladies' Night Out at the Mall of America Thursday, November 5, brought in more than $23,000 for scholarships.
"We were thrilled with the result," said organizer Marcy Plitzkow. "This money will make such a difference in helping some really worthy students achieve their dreams."
The SFM Foundation provides scholarships to students whose parents were killed or seriously injured in workplace accidents while working for Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa employers. Since its inception in 2008, the Foundation has committed a total of $885,500 toward scholarships benefiting 94 students.
Past scholarship recipient and Foundation Board Member Mikaela Willhite spoke at the event, telling those in attendance what a difference the scholarship made for her. She now works in St. Cloud, Minn., as a registered nurse.
"We're so thankful to everyone who attended, sponsored and donated toward this event," Plitzkow said. "You've helped make college possible for these students."
